Scientific Instruments Service started nearly 40 years ago as Teletronik in Mumbai. At the time Teletronik provided freelance consultancy and service to various quality control laboratories. It specialized in service of OE Spectrometers, X-Ray Spectrometers, Spectrophotometers, Gas Chromatographs, Calorimeters, etc. among other items such as Centrifuges, Sterilizers etc.

Its founder Mr. S.H Mandlik was initiated to the world of spectrometric analysis at AIMIL India (ca. 1974). His first introduction to OE Spectrometers was through Hilger Analytical of U.K., which is credited with many firsts in the industry. He was later associated with Varian, Digital and another giant of the spectrometer industry, ARL (Applied Research Laboratories) through his long stint at Hinditron (ca. 1978 – 1989). He was again briefly associated with Hilger Analytical as director at Metal Power Analytical Industries (ca. 1989 – 1992).

Over this period of time his private involvement in Teletronik, which later became known as Scientific Instruments Service (SIS), continued. He left Metal Power in the early nineties to fully concentrate on SIS. After a careful search, during which he was approached by several spectrometer manufacturers, he chose to represent Belec Spektrometrie Opto-Elektronik, GmbH (www.belec.de) of Germany.
